Now that the ARRL has clarified the administrative process by which the anticipated changes to the two existing Netherlands Antilles DXCC entities will be made, it is time for further sepculations on how many new ones we will find in the Dutch Caribbean as from 0400 UTC on October 10, 2010.
I expect that Curaçao and Sint Maarten, who will become countries within the Kingdom of the Netherlands (status aparte) will be treated like Aruba. At a date not known yet they will appear on the Department of State list and will become DXCC entities. The so called BES islands will become special Dutch municipalities. Because each of the three islands will have a local administration, they may appear on the DoS list and here also Rule 1 will apply. In this case this will bring us another three (total five) new entities. If this will not happen we need to look at Rule 2 (Geographic Separation). The ARRL has determined that the distance between Saba and Bonaire is more than 800 km. In this case this will bring another two (total four) new enities.
The outcome will not be known on October 10 and we will have to wait until the anticipated change to the DoS list. Activity from each of the islands is announced. Work as many of them as you can and find out about their DXCC status later!
I hope to work you from Bonaire on 10-10-10 and from Curaçao on the 12th.

The Island Council of Curaçao was unable to find the two third majority required for their constitutional change. New elections are to be held within two months. A new council only needs a simple majority to decide on the constitutional change aiming for a status aparte for Curaçao
